Kidnapped by UFO? The Betty and Barney Hill Story, Part 1

Barney and Betty HIll of Portsmouth, New Hampshire claim they were taken aboard a spacecraft, examined and given information by the crew members in September 1961. Although their case was one of many it was fully documented and thoroughly investigated. Whether their experience was what it seemed or some sort of fantasy, being one of the first abductions reported it is important that we should know exactly what happened, for it is a part of a widespread pattern.

Late on September 19, 1951 after a short holiday trip to Niagara and Montreal they were driving at night because they were running low on money and the trip was spur of the moment. During their journey the Hills report seeing no other cars or people on their way home. What happened to the couple was documented in a letter written by Mrs. Hill five days later to a UFO investigator, Donald Keyhoe of the National Investigations Committee for Aerial Phenomena, (NICAP).

"About midnight on September 20, 1961 my husband and I were driving in a National Forest Area in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, a desolate uninhabited area. At first we noticed a bright object in the sky which seem to be moving rapidly. We stepped out of our car and to observe it more closely with our binoculars. Suddenly, it reversed its flight path from the North to Southwest flying in a very erratic pattern. As we continued to drive and then stepping out to watch it, we observed the a flight pattern. the object was spinning and appeared to be lighted only on one side, with a twinkling effect. As it approached our car we stopped again. It hovered in the air in from of us, it appeared to be pancake in shape, ringed with windows in the front through which we could see bright blue-white lights. Suddenly two red lights appeared on each side. By this time Barney was standing in the road, watching closely. He saw wings protrude on each side and the red lights were on the wing tips. As it glided closer he was able to see inside this object, but not too closely. He saw several figures dressed in shiny black uniforms. At this point they became shocked and got back in the car in a hysterical condition, laughing and repeating that "they were going to capture us". Barney started driving the car and heard several buzzing or beeping sounds which seemed to be striking the trunk of their car." Little did they know, they had been captured.

It was not until two months later, in the course of investigation and questioning by UFO investigators that a missing time puzzle emerged. After mentally reconstructing the whole trip, it was realized and proven and it had taken longer than expected to travel 190 miles on empty roads at the speed of 65 MPH. It took them seven hours to make a normal two hour trip. What happened during this lapse of time would only be known in a series of dreams that fill in the gap of time. These dreams were well documented and under hypnosis, both Betty and Barney recall the same occurrence.
