How to Control Hypo-Mania with Bipolar Disorder

Updated on October 23, 2012

Hypo mania, the in between

Bipolar Disorder is a bundle of moods and thoughts and dreams all wrapped up in to one nutshell you just can't seem to crack. Episodes of Depression weight you down like a trapped bear. Unable to move or think because the pain in so unbearable you feel you have no choice but to lay down and die, just let it run it's course. This too Shall Pass..........

Mania is sometimes worse than Depression, even though you no longer feel worthless and expelled from society. You fell beautiful and everything you ever dreamed of is right beyond your fingertips. No more seeping for days at the time with no shower or changing clothes or getting out of the bed for more tea or to use the bathroom and smoke that cigarette simultaneously because you can't bear to even look at the outside of your bedroom. Dark, gloomy just where you want to be, because it is darker outside and there are demons you will have to fight. You lose all will to have human contact. It's a solemn place.

Then there comes the Hypo-Mania, the time between depression and full blown mania where your energy comes back and so does your self esteem. At this point you are functioning well. The house is clean, the laundry's is done. Getting your hair done is a must because you feel like you have just come out of a coma. Things feel so much better, colors are brighter, sounds are more intensified, you have creative thoughts flowing and life could be no better.

The period of Hypo Mania is very critical. While you are so ecstatic that you feel you are on control of your life again, there will be trouble up the road if you don't hold things down and stay grounded. During this time, speaking for myself I am doing all the things I didn't do while stuck up in my bedroom. Besides the housework, the phone calls, paying past due bills you weren't thinking about, all with a joyful perspective. Not thinking at all that this pandemonium could have been avoided if depression had not debilitated you for a while. While you are in this in between stage, there are things you should take charge of. You are feeling so great and you can handle little stresses so prepare yourself, turn your energy level and creativity into something meaningful. Inspire.

If you suffer from Bi-Polar Disorder, all mood characateristivs are different, depending on your life circumstances. Stress always makes things worse and during this time stress will not affect you but maybe effecting the ones around you. I can't say that this will help everyone but it has helped me.

Take Control

This is your time to take control. Make a schedule and stick to it... I know what you are thinking, I have started schedules for myself a million times but but one day it will stick, it will become an instinct. Give it a try. Don't Overload yourself. Take Control of you and your surroundings in a correct unbiased way. Remember, you have been depressed for a while now and you have probably put the people who loves you the most in very compromising positions. You can't start demanding, think of those around you and part of taking back your control.

As part of your schedule make sure you include an outdoor activity at least 5 days a week. It could be pruning your flowers, taking a short walk or run. Exercise is the one of the most important things you can implement into your life. Besides the obvious reasons that it is healthy, it also helps mental health. Sunlight also helps tremendously. Call your friend or take your partner on a bike ride. Take Control and take advantage of the situation and make it worth your while.

I know you don't want to hear about this one but know it is for the best. Money.

If you have a spouse or partner who handles all of the money or at least takes the responsibility for paying the bills, you are lucky. If you don't, let someone help you get on a budget. Hypos Mania as well as full blown Mania often results in spending lots of money. Credit cards the same. You might be willing to give up some of these privileges to keep things in control.

Vitamins and Herbs

Your body's metabolism has now risen and you will need to restore yourself with vitamins. A multi-Vitamin daily should be sufficient but there are lots of natural herbs that can help you as well. For that I will link you to one of my favorite hubs on the topic at the bottom of the text.

Medication

If you take medication for your Bipolar Disorder it may need to be adjusted at this time. You will need to discuss that with your doctor and it is very important. Your chemicals have changed and so does your medicine dosage.
